i have pre-flight jitters
yup you read it right. i wonder if it's normal for a person to be nervous before a flight. i mean, i get super duper nervous when the plane is about to take off, or when it's about to land, and whenever there's a turbulence. it scares the daylights out of me. seriously.
so i went for a trip to kota kinabalu last week. and i nearly miss the flight by 10 seconds. the gate was closed, and although the journey was extremely scary, i did learn a few tricks on what to do when you, inevitably, turn up late at the airport for your flight. this is for domestic flights by airasia only.
1. go to counter 1 and 2. if i'm not mistaken its the customer service counter. naturally the people working at the booth will give you a big lecture on why you're late, but do give them the best puppy eye look that you can, and plead for their help. they will help, but you'll have to be fast. i had to check all six of my family members in, and they left out my grandmother's ic although i've passed it to them. so, the lesson of the story is, check every single boarding pass that has been handed to you. make sure everybody is taking theirs, especially those travelling with extended family members, it is extremely important you make sure everybody have their own boarding pass.
2. what to do with the bags? i was lucky there was another flight to kota kinabalu one hour later, meaning if my bag doesn't get to be on board on my scheduled flight, i'll at least get to take my bags a few hours later, not a few days later. so, having a set of clothes in your hand carry is important too. oh yeah, counter 3 and 4 is for passengers to check in their bags. if there's a long line, and your flights 5 minutes away, you can ask politely to cut the line, as a flight is waiting for you!!
3. try not to be late for a flight, if possible. want to know why i was late? we left out my grandpa's luggage. my brother had to go all the way back to get it. so it's important to count all of the bags before you leave the house, especially when you're travelling with old people who can't take their own luggage.
4. don't give up hope. i was running to and fro from the airport to get to the right counter. ask them for possible options, although i didn't get a lot of help from that phrase, but it depends on the airline that you're flying with, i suppose.
my flight to and back form kota kinabalu wasn't exactly smooth either. we arrived at kota kinabalu around 5pm, and apparently it was raining around that time for the past few days. the sky was foggy as rain clouds blocked the view, and the airplane that i was in had to fly in circles for a good 30 minutes before we were able to land. that was still ok. the worst was the flight back to kl. the weather was good when we were waiting for the plane, but turn worst in just a few seconds before the plane was about to fly. it was raining and there was thunderstorm, and it was dark. the whole scene from the window was like a bad nightmare coming real for me.
crazy thoughts came through my mind, like what if we got hit by a thunderstorm? i was secretly hoping the captain would fly us back to kk and delay the whole flight. i didn't sleep throught out the whole flight as there was turbulence too. it didn't went well either when we reached kl. it was bad weather as well. thunderstorm and rain, the plane went through turbulence before we landed as well. fml!!! that was the last straw i could take. my next flight would have to wait a little longer this time.
