blame it on the lack of sleep. the brain is still not functioning. oh well, at least i can still take a picture of it when it's in the glass case.

 today's 11.11.11!!! just like 8.8.08 or 9.9.09 or 10.10.10, it's unique, it's special, it happens only once every bajillion years, it's hyped by everyone, but sadly i have nothing related to the dates above, and when people get all exited  with the dates above saying, hey, it's special, let's get married! let's do something special! let's just do something! i can't help but think, shouldn't you be treating everyday like it's special?

anyhoo, we're currently working on the model that we spent 2 months researching (measuring, to be exact) at Makassar, Indonesia, hence the sticks and plasticin.  the materials costs us a bomb, like how most   architecture related things are, and how it hit straight to the point when the shopkeeper said "you should have known it before choosing this course"  that i felt a pang in my heart. damn, so true. but seriously, i didn't know it would cost THIS much.

it's no kidding when i tell you i've been opening my sketchup and autocad to do work so many times i pity my poor little, and very efficient mouse. all i can hear is the "click click" sound of the mouse going away for at least 5 hours a day. it went to the point where i would get really ecstatic when i can finally ( i meant temporarily) abandon my sketchup models and pick up a book to study for building services, construction and masonry, islam dan isu-isu semasa (there was a test) and finish up the damn english report for academic writing which, has been a pain in the ass. oh, and suddenly studying was fun again! pfft. and, my i add in, manual drawing was such a relief to my tired eyes! i haven't been wearing my contacts for a while now, and has been worrying about the state of my poor laptop where it is practically switched on when i'm awake. i try to let it rest and switch it of whenever i can, and praying that it wouldn't go haywire(due to revenge! what am i thinking! ) when there's so much of projects stacking up!

gosh! design is fun, but the deadline isn't. so here's some sketchup stuff that i've been doing, just to show that i have indeed been up on my ass and working like a bee for the past few week (and will be continuing to work). i am lusting for the day where i can go back to kl and meet up with my friends and do nothing!

the quality of the image sucks, i know, but you know when you think your design is done, and when you switch of the laptop, only then you would realize that you've forgotten to change some of the things that your lecturer has ask you to do , or you've forgotten to add the tiles here, or some itty bitty minor changes that would have changed the whole design? yeah, that happens to me all the time. it's frustrating, but for me my design are only considered done on the day i print it out and hand it in.

on another note, i'll be going to the remote island/place (as describe by my lecturer) of makassar in sulawesi, indonesia for 2 weeks to do measure drawing. and now i'm worrying about whether they have toilet indoors. and apparently the place is creepy, you know lah, old house and stuff. well if you're thinking what measured drawing is, it's about measuring a building (architecture) (duh!) mostly of the vintage/old type, because we would want to document it just in case it's demolished or go down due to age for good. me thinks it's a noble job preserving the details (i'm a sucker for history), but i'm counting on sweat and man-power to finish the job. it's a subject! and who doesn't want a big fat A on it?

okok, enough for the ranting on my schedule. oh, by the way, if you're an architecture student, our school will be organizing a nationwide architectural event, themed terang. please click here for the official website. we promise it'll be so much more fun than archustic! :)

ps: i'll be flying to makassar straight after terang! how much of clothes should i pack? (2 weeks preparation for terang, 1 week terang, 2 weeks makassar), and no break to go home. this calls for a mission in shopping ! :)

place making: an urban language used to describe a waterfront/park/square.

i'm suppose to design one which is related to the chinese culture.

the reason for this place making? (i've decided to narrow it down to a park), to attract people to come into the future library(to be design in the 3rd project). i'm not loving the site that our lecturer has chosen for us, it's actually an unused land at the back alley. the place is dirty and unattractive, and hidden. but i'm treating it as a challenge, while squeezing the juice out of my brain trying to see what i can do to improve the quality of the space.

my inspiration?

the 5 elements, which includes fire, metal, earth, water, wood.

and i'm suppose to incorporate all these elements in the design, for example, square will represent metal, and water elements like fountain will represent water.

so far i'm trying to make all the elements blend in together, without them looking as if they would clash, or the whole design looking like a cut and paste design without any connections.

le sigh.

{the traditional moon gate commonly seen in traditional chinese parks. i'm thinking of reinventing it into a modern form where youths nowadays could relate to}

{ the fu dogs. legends say that they'll come to life once the clock strikes 12 and guard the area that they are intended too. personally i'm thinking of putting a pair of this at the entrance to the park....}

{bonsai trees, i'm using this as the main landscape for the place instead of shrubs or trees}

{water elements. i've seen some other popular parks adding small fountains. i think it's a general wastage of water but human beings (kids especially) have the universal attraction towards it, so i'm adding some of this small little fountains, since it's part of the 5 elements, and water is just part of a way to cool a tropical climate where it's summer everyday..}

{interesting street lamps. i think it's extremely important that a park is properly lit during the night. otherwise it would be just creepy and dark....}

the submission dateline is on the coming monday (!! 3 A1 boards!!!! fyi i haven't started yet). will post the presentation boards soon.

Good morning! :)

it's 4 am right now and i'm not asleep... yet. i figure if i don't blog about this now it'll take ages for me to continue updating my blog. sometimes you've just got to do things right there and then. :)

anyway last wednesday our batch, known as the vitruvius, hosted the annual malam silaturahim. it's a night where the seniors get to know the juniors, where everybody just mingle around, and enjoy the night where performances will be prepared by the juniors.

this year's theme is pejamust, taken from the word pajamas. we've decided on that theme because when we were having the meeting to choose the theme everybody was tired and sleepy, so someone actually say, hey, why dont we organise a pajama night, and everybody dress up in thier pajamas? we were pretty exited, because it sounded pretty fresh and fun.

so the paperwork began, and as the stage designer i had my own headaches. like deciding on the venue, and how to place the stage so it'll be advantageous to

everybody. did you know i actually change the layout of the stage like 547542451 times? gosh the guys almost kick my ass when i asked them to rearrange the whole stage repeatedly. i have to admit carrying and shifting the stage ain't an easy job, and i'm sorry, and i've already treated all 12 of you with drinks right? :p

designing the stage wasn't easy at all, considering we had a really tight budget, and a high venue with virtually no place to tie the props. but we did it in

the end, albiet some drama and hard work (we girls actually went to the 3rd floor, sat on the ledge just to tie the banners, guys where are you? ). here's some picture my friends took from the event, what do you think of the whole setting?

i love brainstorming. especially when everyone's sitting around the round table. crazy ideas will just be flowing around, and a lot of times theses idea's will just make me go " why have i not thought about it before?" today we had one for fashion, and people just throw out ideas, no matter how crazy it is, at us, where most of it are refreshingly new and fresh. maggi!, milo!, roti canai! haha apparently when most of them think of malaysia they think of food.

in the end we've decided on food as the main element of the design, as oppose to the other design that we've finalize that day, which is more of the distortion of a sari, and huge and extrovent shoulder asseccories. well at least i personally think this design is much funnier ad warmier than the previous one, which is cold and hard. now we're down to searching the materials and choosing the theme song. haizh. so much of work! it is! we're doing everything from scratch! technically we'll be 'building' clothes, if you may.

we'll be going to a workshop in another week, and most of us are still stuck with the design process and none have started progressing, which is worrying and terrifying. i'm having the image that we'll all be working crazily 2 days before we leave the school, which happens most of the time anyway...last minute work. which is very typical, you see. most of the time during studio its no sleep for us at all the night before the final presentation (depending on your unfinished workload, some of our seniors won't be sleeping for 3 nights even! living on red bull, and some, cigarette. bad lifestyle eh?

well i guess most of us wouldn't mind it if we're doing something that we really have the passion. some of my seniors have pulled out halfway through the course (it's a 5 year course, it use to be 6) and sometimes it scares me because the assignments that i get in first year has been scary, occasionally, so for the time being i wouldn't want to think about the future first. it's better to tale it one step at a time, right?

anyway, which me luck in the workshop.i hope we'll make a freaking fantastic clothes. werq it bebeh! :)
