Bare Essentials

just a glimpse of what i usually do every tuesday...site visits! fun and scary at the same time. fun being a first timer and looking at how everything goes on at a site, while scary when we're doing the visits because of how em... unkept the whole things is. i'm not sure how clean and safe construction sites in other places are, but on my side of the world, even though you're wearing safety boots and helmet, i'll still recommend you to always always watch out for the stray needles and do not ever step on surfaces that does not look like it's made of concrete. just in case.

a typical scene at a construction site, plentiful amount of reinforcement bars, steel and timber. most of these are reused (the metal frames for support), but i do doubt the stability that it provides cause some of it are already bent out of shaped. spot the v shape columns right there? love them...they look tiny in the picture but in real life they're huge!

one of the views from the apartment.

bare essential. never seen a building/apartment unit at it's bare state before. it feels kind of surreal looking at a real life unit that you've drawn on paper coming to life. when i was there i was picturing all the spaces in the studio unit when it was in paper and putting them in place while looking at them in real life. it gave me the sense of, oh, so this is how you look like in real life haha... because while i was drawing the space it did felt like it was a small *it's a studio unit*, but when i finally saw it the sizes felt comfortable instead. maybe the whole unit will feel different again when they've put up the finishing touches.

the hardest part of the job. it's not really clearly captured in this picture but the edges are rugged, done for design purposes. drawing this was a pain in the ass. i've spent countless overtimes in the office drawing this, getting it right and getting every single dimension of all of it's curves/break. however i do wonder how accurate did the contractor built this but i'm pretty sure it wasn't easy for them to built it as well.

anyway this is all part of my life during the 3 months of the internship. can't believe it's going to end soon. just got the news that they will be building a mock up unit and the inspection is in 2 weeks time. i'm really sad because by that time i would already be back in school at far far away johor. :(. but i can't wait for the whole project to finish so i finally can go and see it for myself ! *and touch all the finishes haha*
