firsts
my dad use to tell me there's always a day when we try something new for once.
like the time you had to stand in front of the stage to give a speech, or just perform in front of a crowd. today i did something new too, i joined a 10km relay marathon with my friends!
all of us had to run for 2km, along the university, competing with people from the other residential college. the reason we sign up for this was to get the quota so we can still have a chance to stay in the college that we're staying right now, cause the competition to get a room is really tight.
so we went through the training, for 2 days, running our ass out. i have to tell you it is extremely tiring. imagine for a lazy person like me who doesn't do any sports except for like walk to my faculty to actually run for real? and every part of my body was aching, i bet my muscles would just limp off and die of exhaustion.
this is just the introduction. imagine arriving at the place of the competition seeing all the professional runners doing crazy stretching exercises. suddenly we felt like small kids going to the gym.
well the initial idea was to just finish the race, (our 2km part) and not give up halfway. we had no intention to win at all becuase the others looked so professional (some really where because they represent the university team in international competition).
we end up trying our best. just as simple as that. in actual words i was freaking out already. my route was a slope down the hill then to a flat area. oh yeah you might think its fun but imagine after going down the hill and then arriving at the flat surface. it was suffering to me. argh my legs was so tired i wanted to just stop running.
but i didn't stop. cause i saw the person in front of me stop! hahah, i was in second place at the time and i thought, hey, i can actually win this. imagine your mind wanting to give up but your physical body is still trying to push it through.
i end up running pass the security guards who was suppose to accompany me, and winning the 4th round of the race. at that time i was just trying to give my friend who was running the last leg of the race more time. my legs went into jelly bean mode right after i stop. i was so freaking tired i was telling myself i would never sign up for this ever again.
and another friend of mine went and gave me a cup of ice cold water. it was a good gesture but my stomach wasn't so kind to me. i end up feeling all nauseas but the news that we won (read : WON) , made me change my mind about vomiting in the lake nearby.
we WON!! we freaking won the race with just 2 practices, with me the fat one not pulling the group down, it was just an unexpected win!
let me just sum up how we won,
1st round, we got 4 th place, the 2nd round we got 3rd place, and the 3rd round we got 2nd place.
for the remaining 2 more rounds we got 1st place!! 1st!! i'm not kidding we're so happy and we're happy also because we didn't give up. besides this is our (meaning me n my 2 other friends) first gold, a first something we won in university!! and it's official!!
so let me just recap all the firsts for me today,
it's the first time i joined a 10km relay race, 1st time i got 1st place in running, individual and in group, it's my 1st medal from the university, and it's not architecture related at all!!
all of us end up agreeing that the hypothesis that by the time we graduate we would have tried and conquered everything possible for humankind. yay to architecture students!

here's another look at the winning picture. this win is sweeter than my regular bowl of shaved ice!
:)
Congrats on your many firsts. Not an easy feat to run 2 km at one go. :)
