singapore - malacca - muar - batu pahat trip
finally it's here!
sorry about the long delay, but here it is! the pictures from the trip :)
initially i thought i wasn't going to make it as the day that was planned for the food trip was the day i will be visiting my friend at singapore, but let's just say i was lucky enough that it got post phoned so the moment i reached my hostel i was on to the next food trip! * i hadn't had to pack, i still had extra clothes left in my backpack :) talk about quick and easy trips! *
so i head to singapore. alone. people who knows me well knows that i hate to be alone. well except when there's a good read. i didn't know where to go, orchard was pretty predictable already, so i head off to the national museum of singapore. i didn't know there'll be a gallery showcasing art *couldn't recall the name of the showcase* and admission was free of charge! they had quite a few exhibits on impresionnist artist, monet was there, van gogh was there, starry night was there, i was in for a treat! i tried taking some pictures but it felt weird, you know? but here's some to satisfy the curiosity....
and the museum was awesome. i mean, i haven't been to the national musuem in kl for quite some time but i'm pretty sure they don't have this gadget! it's pretty cool, instead of reading the description, this little thing reads it out to you by pressing out the numbers on your location. it's like listening to stories on the go. too bad i didn't manage to take the whole tour because it was closing already.

there was some event at the front of the museum. white balloons and a luscious lawn. need i say more?

headed off to orchard. had 2 singapore ice cream as they call it. it's just colored bread and a generous slice of ice cream. and it's just 1 dollar!! i highly recommend the raspberry flavour. i had 2 haha, it's really nice eating the ice cream and watching passerbys at orchard road, from what i remember there's the mime and chinese acrobats there, so it's always interesting to just sit and watch :) the H&M is also a good place to shop, and the basement floor of takashimaya is a good place to get some good treats, really, when i was there the had a hokkaido food festival, and they brought in the huge crabs you see on deadliest catch, plus the creamiest pudding and cheescake, *oh be still my heart* if it wasn't for the currency exchange i would have splurge without thinking twice.
next up - malacca. when we arrive it was already at night, good time to be at jonker street. i love the street, they have this night market going on and street food are pretty much abundant, think penang laksa, cendol, durian cendol (haha it does not stink, trust me). but if you're coming to jonker solely for street food i would recommend coming before 9pm so there'll still be choices.
the geographer's cafe. popular hangout place. always crowded with people. but i've never step foot in that place. i don't know why, i've been to malacca quite a few times but i've never ever step inside that cafe.
the back alley. it's really pretty and quiet. not many people walk past here, there's little cafe's at both side of the river.
muar is a good place to go. it has a street dedicated to food! need i say more?
the picture below is actually in batu pahat. did you note the similarities? old post-colonial buildings, it gives out almost the same vibe. you gotta love old places.
headed off for dinner. we were so full by that time. it was a great trip. but i wish my stomach could have a bigger storage space. :)

straight up to muar at midnight. in the morning we had bat kut teh and awesome muar otak-otak (basically it's fish cakes wrapped in coconut leaves. yummy)
in chinese it's called tan chi jie, meaning foodie's street, and it's literally filled with stalls selling all sorts of food that you can think of. it's irony i called this a food trip but sadly theres no pictures of food. (i'm sorry!) i mean, the food is so good the moment it arrives it's almost gone. imagine 8 people getting it at once, i'm so not going to spoil the mood by stopping all of them just because i want to take food pictures right?
