oh yeah. a book review. by me. :)

i'm not sure how does one write a book review, but i'm trying really hard not to give you all the details *so you can read it yourself* i think this book is pretty good! i would rate it a 4 out of 5.

this is the first jodi picoult book that i've read , although i've watch my sister's keeper *i cried, seriously! the ending is so sad! *  and it so happen that this book is available for rm2 per loan!!! i had to pick it up to read.

the storyline is really good. it's pretty much similar to my sister's keeper, with a sister suffering from an incurable disease. i really like how she wrote it.  the details of the story is amazing! it's just unbelievable. i could imagine the time and effort she has poured into the making of this book.

ok, so to the main point. this book focuses on a mother (charlotte) who had a child (willow) born with OI, or commonly known as the brittle bone disease. it's a really sad genetic disease that can't be cured and most baby born with this usually dies at the early stages of life, but if they do survive, imagine this, they could break their bone just by sneezing, or maybe when they turn in their bed, or maybe while they lift a cup of milk. imagine by age 6 willow has already suffered from 60-something broken bones. *gasp!* 

the book shows how the mother copes with all of this with the help of her ob-gyn good friend, but sues her because she didn't inform her early enough in the pregnancy so she could decide whether or not to abort, when in truth, she's actually eyeing for the settlement so she can afford a better life for willow.  the story focuses on how a family cope with a special needs child, and how, little things like enjoying a holiday trip can turn out to be a disaster. the court case nearly tore the family apart. the reason winning a settlement matters so much to charlotte is because the cost of taking care of a child with special needs is sky high, and with only one of the parent working because the other has to stay home and take care of that child it is almost impossible to cover all the cost, even if it means losing her best friend forever and destroying her career as a doctor. she would rather lose her best friend than lose her child. sometimes i think being a mother changes your perspective, and thinking, especially when the times get though. because mothers would use whatever crazy ways, just to make sure their child is protected. motherly instincts are insane, i tell you. 

now, while reading the book i hated charlotte's character for betraying her best friend for her child. because, seriously, who does that? i'm pretty sure there's other you can sue, but it certainly made it clear that it's better to not have your best friend as your ob-gyn in care when you're pregnant.i mean, we're all human after all, emotions get in the way. always, always get a second opinion!

the story also made me look into my own life in a different perspective. because, coincidentally, i hurt my knee cap pretty badly and i was moaning like a baby, and blaming everybody, including the furniture! i felt really down because it hurts like hell and i cant' bend my right knee for a few days. the feeling suck. and then i thought of willow. she's had it worst than me. and she didn't blame anyone! so reading books like this made me realise that, hey, you've got a perfect life! don't let small things like this pull you down, you know?

i'm not sure about the other readers, but i'm the sort of reader who will still be curious about how the character lives will be, even though the story has end. i'm curious about how long will willow live, how will her life be? how is her family going to be? i know i'll never have an answer to this, and i know i can make up my own story, but it won't be the same as how the writer would write it, right?
