memories 10/4/2014
memories are short and fleeting, you never know which will stay in your mind for long, or which one will be the first to be forgotten.
do i want to remember when dawgie passed? i remember i cant wait to go home to finally give him his favorite head rub only to hear from my parents that he has passed away tragically. i didn't even have time to react. and then i realise all of my pets in the past has passed before their time came, my pet chickens was taken away by the health officials for fear of the SARS outbreak. ever since that fateful day i never talk to that neighbor who reported it, freaking paranoid old lady there was no SARS in my area at all you fool!
i have never had the chance to say goodbye to both my pets. it was truly agonizing. now i cant stand to have another pet. the fact that you have to endure what came when they pass away is so painful! i just cant deal with it.
now all that's left of dawgie is his dog house that my dad designed and had it custom made for him. it was a sad sad day. and i know some of you might not understand it but i choose to move on rather than stay sad. as a buddhist i would wish that he will have a better next life when he gets reborn.
so now whenever i miss him i just imagine him walking next to me and give him an imaginary pet.
:(
focus
is what i need right now.
it is seemingly tougher to focus on the task at hand right now.
so many distractions.
ugh
countdown to another 3 months!
so good it hurts..
my ears.
really, because my roommate is asleep and i use my earphones, which i have never find comfy at all, regardless of the brand or shapes that i've tried.
have you listened to walter mitty's soundtrack? so good it helps me think. some music is good but your mind sorta goes off with it and you can't concentrate ( phoenix's bankrupt album and lorde's heroine does that to me) but this soundtrack clears my mind!! listening to enya and sleeping at last have the same effect but it gets boring after a while.
i am now stranded in the part where i'm searching for new music to listen to give it a variety. other than the few that have been listened repeatedly.
ah back to searching again. calm soothing inspiring music come to me please.
Between her and ruby sparks
this post was meant to be posted yesterday, but i was travelling so it had to wait. i'm not a big fan of movies on romance, but had to comment between these two.
i watched her before ruby sparks, and was initially put off watching the former because i wasn't so convince with the poster haha. i love how bright the poster is, the font, and the color of joaquin phoenix eyes are, but didn't like the stache and the word love story stated there. i was expecting a cheesy, predictable love story! i didnt watch the trailer, but i'm glad i watched it in the end. and the soundtrack! out of the world.
without giving out too much on the both movies * just in case you haven't had the chance to watch it yet* her is basically a love story that breaks boundaries *lol* i guess the director was exploring how a relationship would evolve considering we are so dependent on technology and will only continue our reliance towards it. the idea is fresh and unpredictable on my view - i don't watch a lot of movies so pardon me if there is other movies that are slightly similar to her - and i love the cinematography of this film. the color reminds me of a movies that was set in maybe the 80's/90's, bright colors on the clothing, furniture, but the color of the movie itself gives a vibe, but the objects around them are actually in a modern era.
i believe that apart from a the story line of a movie, it's soundtrack is essential to it's success as well, first being walter mitty, and now, her. love how arcade fire composed all the music, and by listening to the soundtrack feels like it's telling a story of it's own, albeit fitting her perfectly as well.
ruby sparks, on the other hand, released in 2012, not sure if it was aired in malaysia or not, was suggested by a blogger so i gave it a go. loved the story line as well, it's about an author who is facing writer's block and upon writing an assignment suggested to him by his therapist, his imagination became real! for most part of the movie, where they thought the writer was having hallucinations i was expecting them to confirm that he indeed was going mental or something but i'm glad they sort of blur out the part without clarifying whether he was having a breakdown - they didn't have to - all i can say is it's a happy ending, and most importantly, it felt real, and it's from the point of view of a guy's which i find it interesting. and i only found out after watching the movie that they story was written by the actress herself, and both of them are real life couple!! which made me happier because while i was watching the movie i thought their chemistry was so evident on screen! felt so natural and real.
both movies are equally good, although i find her to be quite long-winded in the middle part, but the soundtrack was really good, and it sort of made up the flaws for the movie, and while i loved ruby sparks entirely, the soundtrack could have been better? anyhow both movies are highly recommended by me ;)
Acme Bar & Coffee, The Troika review
One of the things that i'm very exited about being back in KL for the holidays is the amount of cafes that one could drop by at any given time! jb, where i am based for studies, has a lack of cafes and restaurants to check out, which is pretty sad, really. i'm just so happy with the amount of choices that you could drop by in kl! so fun reading articles on cafes to try out and plotting out time to visit them. so we've decided to visit acme bar and coffee, mainly because 1, they have ample parking space, which is sort of essential when you're located in the heart of the city. bangsar is a nightmare when you're searching for a space to park. and 2. it is located in the troika. it's a pretty hyped up condominium among my architecture peers because from what i heard architects ooh and aah about how awesome the building is, mainly because of how creative they use gfrc ( glass fiber reinforce concrete) i was imagining the whole building looking like solid concrete but in a really creative way.
but it turn out the building wasn't exactly how i pictured it in my mind. but anyway, we managed to find it *didn't use waze!! score!! * and parking was ample and affordable ( rm7 for 3 hours). when we arrived i thought it was closed! just look at the picture above. we didn't make a reservation, but i guess you should make one if you're coming for dinner/ peak hours. there wasn't anyone manning the receptionist, which adds up to us thinking whether they're open. but anyways a waitress greeted us soon enough, and i must add that the decor is really nice! i appreciate the rusty, vintage, loft kind of vibe they have, and realise how in trend this is right now as most of the cafes are sporting this kind of style.
would you look at the tiles!! plus i imagine it would be really fun dining here with friend or family at the long table.
le bar. very minimalist chic. filled with essential items. neatly arranged, no clutter.
cake place. incomparable to the impressive cake display at china house in penang. but sometimes i wonder shouldn't they be served chilled? the cakes wouldn't dry out being expose like that? but it's definitely pretty to look at.
*sorry for the blur picture* we ordered vegetable root fries with truffle oil to try. lightly dipped in flour and fried modestly *crunchy on the outside but still soft on the inside, to retain it's flavor i guess* it was a nice change to the usual potato fries. i was halfway munching on a sweet potato that i realise i didn't taste any of the truffle oil at all. or maybe it was my taste buds. nice option to try though.
sizzling brownie and ice cream! classic dessert. read so many reviews about it, and it was delish! i was aware of the burnt taste of the chocolate syrup as it sizzle at the bottom, but of course it would burn in that heat! it's good for gimmick with the sizzle and all but one wonders why pour chocolate syrup when you end up with 90% of them getting burnt and sticking to the pan and you looking at it trying to scrape some to try but end up eating burnt syrup. apart from that this brownie here is worth putting that diet plan on hold.
flat white. before i start making a fool of myself for not knowing the difference between a flat white and a latte, i find this kind of similar to a latte. similar. i'm not a coffee expert nor a coffee lover, but this cup of flat white is smooth and that sad looking biscuit there should at least be replaced by a decent size biscotti. yes i'm talking to you, acme bar and coffee people.
would i come back for a second visit? no. there's so many options for cool cafe's out there and till i finish cafe hopping this place will be on the back of my list. didn't try out any of their meals, so can't comment on that. price point: coffee from rm 13-15, desserts from rm 13-19 and meals for rm 25- and beyond. plus their washroom is worth checking out.
ps: lately there are a lot of cafe's that spent so much on the decor, most of the time the food would taste just ok. can't we all have the best of both world? or one would think you could compensate a lack of taste on your meal with an awesome ambiance huh?
toddles!
let's talk music, shall we?
submission season is finally over!!!! *insert dance here*
YESSSSSS
not sure about grades yet, but finally i'm reminded how post submission feels like, FINALLLY. apart from
some tiny little paperwork and some amendments on assignments, i'll be on my way to the holidays.... so fun talking to the lecturer and he said see ya guys again next semester!! hahah feels so good. kinda feels like in hogwarts, we can finally take the train home !!
anyways. speaking of music. as i mention previously about working and listening to music. i randomly clicked lorde's music and OH LORDE!!! the album pure heroine is good. i mean, i was sort of skeptical at first because her song royals was kinda of overplayed on radio and it is now more annoying than it was good. so. i gave the album pure heroine a chance and the tunes were heavenly. i love all of it, particularly buzzcut season, ribs, all of it except for royals.
and the soundtrack for walter mitty. so good. do realise my vocab is pretty limited here. when i like something i go : so gooooooooooood. the goodness is depended on the number of o's i put in the word. i find using the word awesome, mind blown, fantastic, outstanding, excellent kinda pretentious. the other day i heard a friend using the word pretentious in a weird way and i cringed. didn't have the heart to correct her. probably next time. it's annoying you know? sometimes, i mean, you don't want to be the grammar nazi correcting people's grammar every single time right? besides, i'm not that great myself so i'll pass.
back to walter mitty. the soundtrack has introduced me to more new music/performers that i've never heard before, and i'm absolutly happy with the addition. didn't know space oddity was the song for "ground control to major tom!" i actually like kristin wiig's version. it was is very good. the band of monsters and men was good, jose gonzalez as well, i mean every song is worth listening to! i've put the links here so keep it on replay! it is absolutely rare for an album/soundtrack where you would like all of the songs.
*spoiler of the movie ahead. stop reading if you have not watched the movie. if you don't mind just keep reading*
regarding the movie, i like how they incorporated the motto of life magazine in the movie. so apt. i didn't read the book, and initially i thought the part where he worked in life was part of the book! makes me feel like going on an adventure. and the movie felt real, i like how they didnt try to make the main character a hero where normal people can't relate to. like after he got fired and he stayed that way, but with a future to look forward to. not sure why it didn't make it big in the box office, but with big productions like the hunger games and the hobbit maybe it got shadowed. but it's good! don't understand the critics sometimes haha. sometimes it does feel like the panels we have in critique session, when you think a work is good they don't like it, and vice versa. kinda feels like they do this all for the sake for proving that they understand something more than us normal people/layman do.
coming up on the holidays there's a huge back log of photos from my hong kong trip to edit >< now that i think of it, putting up christmas photo's in january wouldn't be weird, right? hahaha, the reason why is because i couldn't find my memory card reader for my desktop, and my laptop konked out. gah. anyways, back to work now and i'll see you guys soon! ;)
pain
paining.
pain.
paaaiiinn.
i think there's something wrong with my stomach.
like the protective lining around it has been exhausted, and nothing is left to protect my stomach anymore.
damn you gastric!
leave me alone!!
that sadness when paracetamol can't help stop the pain.
and those chewy yellow tablets that doesn't help.
gaviscon.... don't even bother.
